GINGERBREAD WONDERLAND
Friday,
December 3 – Sunday, December 12
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily and until 8:00 p.m. on Fridays
The rich spicy scent of gingerbread fills the air and beckons us into
the holiday spirit as Gingerbread Wonderland opens this December at Frelinghuysen
Arboretum. On display will be yummy creations made by children, adults
and families. Visitors will be dazzled by the elaborately decorated structures
and creative genius of contestants. This year, professional pastry chefs
from around our area will be joining the display to delight and inspire
us.
In past years, fantastic creations have included fairy tale castles,
haunted houses, covered bridges, log cabins, cathedrals, trains, and sleds,
just to name a few. Materials have included Shredded Wheat thatched roofs,
Fruit Roll-up windows, pretzel logs, sugar cube walls, ice cream cone
turrets, and candy of every kind. Entries are judged on creativity, style,
method and neatness. Ribbons are awarded in every category.
New
this year will be crafts for children from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday
and Sunday, December 4th and 5th and again on Sunday December 12th. For
a minimal fee of $1.50 per craft item, children may opt to make a pinecone
topiary, a glistening snowflake or a gingerbread pin.
Schedules and entry forms are available at the Haggerty Education Center
or may be obtained by calling (973) 326-7628. Registration for entries
must be received by Friday, November 12. Space is limited to the first
250 entries. Entries must be delivered on Wednesday, December 1 from 10:00
a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Registration is a must. No walk-ins will be accepted.
The Annual Gingerbread Wonderland exhibit has become a Morris County
tradition. Every year, thousands of visitors experience this delicious
extravaganza. Make this feast for your eyes part of your holiday tradition.
Suggested donation, $1 per person.
