Arbor Day Awards - April 11, 2011
Arbor Day is celebrated every year at the Arboretum by dedicating a newly-planted tree to people deserving of special attention for their contributions to making the Arboretum what it is today. This year's recipients gathered together with a number of friends and associates from the Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum as well as staff from the Park Commission. This year's recipients were Gwen Montgomery for her many years of leading the children's programs at the Arboretum and Mary Alonso for her long-time volunteer activity. While you may see her working at many of our events, her first love is the library in the Haggerty Center.
John Morse of the Park Commission guided us to the plantings and described the trees, while Karen Curry of the Friends read the award plaques. Following the outdoor activity, we all retired to the Haggerty Center for a nice catered luncheon.
