The Benjamin C. Blackburn Scholarship for 2009

$2,500.00

Offered for College Students
studying Horticulture, Botany, Floriculture, Agronomy,
Landscape Design Plant Science or Environmental Science

The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum offer the Benjamin C. Blackburn Scholarship for $2,500.00 to students with a demonstrable interest in a career in horticulture, botany, floriculture, agronomy, landscape design, plant or environmental science. The student must have at least 24 credits in related coursework and a grade point index of 3.0 or higher.

This scholarship, given annually, was created in 1979 to honor the memory of Dr. Benjamin C. Blackburn whose horticultural knowledge and advice helped to shape and develop the Morris County Park Commission's horticultural facilities.

Completed applications must be postmarked by April 20, 2009. A scholarship winner will be announced on May 13, 2009. The winner will be expected to speak briefly about their studies at The Friends Annual Meeting on June 17, 2009.

The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum was founded in 1972. Its mission to support and promote the development of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum and other horticultural facilities of the Morris County Park Commission is realized through the various programs, exhibits and trips which it sponsors. With over 1500 individual and organizational members, The "Friends" also support a horticultural library, staffing for a year round horticultural program and "Branching Out," a children gardening program.

Through its continuing commitment and volunteer efforts, The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum foster and develop public awareness, knowledge and enjoyment of horticulture and the natural world.
