Thanksgiving is Just Around the Corner
Time continues to fly by at an amazing rate. Thanksgiving is just two weeks away which opens the 2010 Holiday Season. Here are some of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum's programs for this holiday season.
Going to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving or just staying home? Either way, young people in grades 1-4, can make a centerpiece appropriate for the season, perfect for the middle of the Thanksgiving table. All materials will be provided. Young people should bring a flat box in which to carry home their arrangements and small hand pruners.
Dr. Douglas Tallamy is Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware, where he has authored 69 research articles and taught for 28 years.
Dr. Tallamy's book "Bringing Nature Home" has sparked a national conversation about the link between healthy local ecosystems and human well-being. Learn about the key role native plants play in the restoration of our denuded landscapes and how we must change our approach to gardening and landscaping if we hope to share the spaces in which we live and work with other living things.
One of the Arboretum's most anticipated events each year is the Gingerbread Wonderland. Join your friends and neighbors from all around the area to "Ooo" and "Ahh" over all the wonderful creations.
A benefit of membership in the Friends is that you are invited to the special "Opening Night Party" held on Friday, December 3rd from 7 to 8:30 pm.
The Gingerbread Wonderland then runs from Saturday, December 4th through Sunday, December 12th. Click on the image at right to open a nice flier with more details.
