New Year's Activities
We have several new things to talk about on this second day of the New Year.
First of all, let me wish you and your families all the best for the new year ahead of us. There are lots of horticultural activities ahead to help us plan for the advent of spring. Believe it or not, we will start seeing some of its first signs -- snowdrops and witch hazels, in only another eight weeks or so. We can make it!
There has been lots of activity behind the scenes on both the website and this newsletter. We have outgrown the server that faithfully handled both these for the last several years and have transferred the website to a new hosting service. This should be seamless now, but you may have encountered a glitch or two (hopefully minor) over the past few days.
The email newsletter, too, will be moving to a new service (this issue is a first trial). Please be sure to let me know of any problems you encounter by mailing me at webmaster@arboretumfriends.org. Following are some items of immediate interest.
We are very excited to announce our first annual photo contest this spring for high school students. Professional photographers will judge the entries, each of which must focus on Plants and People, Landscape and Macro. Winners will receive prizes and all entries will be exhibited in our gallery.
Entries are due no later than May 31. The rules and lots more information are to be found here. Please be sure to let any high schoolers you know of this great event.
