Announcements as of September 19, 2012

The Friends of Frelinghuysen Arboretum are proud to host dozens of events in the coming weeks, ranging from exhibits to photo classes to tours to informative programs on gardens and horticulture. Our full program is found on the Events Page of our website. Please browse there at your leisure, but here are some upcoming events that we would like to highlight. Dahlia Show

This Saturday it’s the Dahlia Show. Who can resist these bright charmers. Speak with knowledgeable hobbyists and enjoy the splash of color and cheer that fill our Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

On Sunday, it’s the Mid Autumn Moon Festival. Registration will re-open for the Mid Autumn Moon Festival on Friday and remain open until we run out of spaces. This family event features story telling, crafts, games and music. It’s free but you must register.

Berried Treasure: Spectacular Fruit for the Garden

Fall berries are appearing everywhere in the arboretum, including Callicarpa dicotoma, the American Beautyberry with its lilac clusters. If you are a fan of the berried plant, hear what Andy Brand from Broken Arrow Nursery has to say on Saturday, October 20. Plan ahead and register now!

Summer Scavenger Hunts for the Whole Family

Looking for a nice long walk to tire the kids out? Take our family Scavenger Hunt this September. It will lead you to the Pinetum just beyond the Meadow and we guarantee a good night’s sleep for all! Sturdy walking shoes required.

The Friends Are Going to Ireland in 2013

And you are invited to join in on a wonderful tour of Irish gardens. Join us on Saturday October 20 for the Friends Trip to Ireland Preview where veteran traveler Sue Acheson will describe the tour and the all the details like itinerary, cost, accomodations, etc. The Preview is free, but we ask that you register in advance.
