Gingerbread Entry Deadline Extended
With cleanup from Hurricane Sandy on everyone's minds, we have extended the exhibitor's entry deadline by a week from Friday, November 16th to Friday, November 23rd. Read all about the Gingerbread Wonderland and download the entry form here on our Events page.
Sandy Cleanup
While the Frelinghuysen Arboretum is still closed to the public, staff are working hard to assess and repair the gardens. We hope to post photographs shortly.
Follow our grounds crews' advice and work safely: use goggles, gloves and appropriate footware.
You may be able to salvage some usable wood for building projects. As it happens our library received a generous donation of books and among them are 2 on making twig furniture. If you want to borrow one, call the front desk and leave a message for lesley -- it may take a few days to get an answer as the phones are not yet working in the Haggerty....
Likewise, fallen evergreen branches might make good wreath material. Or plan to take "got swag" (Holiday Swag Workshop) with Sue and Steve George on Saturday, November 24th, or the Children's Holiday Centerpiece workshop on Monday, December 17th.
Trees
Morris County was hit hard by the storm and many loved trees were lost. If you lost a special tree, please send us a picture and let us know what you will miss.
We will post these in our photo gallery next spring, we will look at them and have some perspective about what we have experienced collectively as gardeners.
Retail Partners
If you find yourself in need of gear, think about shopping at a retail partner - bring your membership card please.

Final Thoughts
- Try to plant some bulbs in that newly sunny spot.
- Clean and oil your tools.
- Fertilize and lime areas that need it.
- Keeping busy and looking forward is what gardeners do best.
- When the arboretum re-opens, visit the back of the Barkman Cottage, where the gift shop was located for many years and where a cafe will open this coming year. At the rear of the building, a beautiful camellia blooms with quiet grace.
- A walk around the labyrinth is recommended for all.
