Everything Is Blooming

Thu May 8. Our What's in Bloom page is sporting the latest update by volunteer, Phil Dahlen. Look at the list and, if you can, take a walk at the Arboretum this week to see how pretty everything looks.

The Friends Run on Volunteers

Mon May 5. Having just seen another successful annual plant sale this past weekend, I want to remark on how fortunate we are to have so many able and willing volunteers. These wonderful people are what make all the Friends of Frelinghuysen Arboretum events run, from winter's Gingerbread Wonderland to the spring Plant Sale to the many behind-the-scenes activities planning and organizing our programs.

A great big THANK YOU ALL is clearly in order.

Another Wonderful Plant Sale

Sun May 4. Lots of us braved the weather and attended one (or both) days of the Friends Annual Plant Sale. The plants were happy -- no wilting heat this weekend. No one went home disappointed since the selection was great, as always.

Just think -- it's only 363 days until the 2009 Friends Annual Plant Sale.

Mon Apr 28. The Arboretum is wearing its Spring finery as bulbs, magnolias and hundreds of other plants burst forth before us. We regularly update our What's in Bloom page, so click here for the full list.

The Friends Annual Plant Sale kicks off this Friday evening with the Members-only gala followed by Saturday's Main Event. Don't miss out on the many wonderful bargains and collectibles available this year. Check out the Plant Sale page for more information.

We sent out the latest edition of our regular e-mail newsletter this morning. Did you get your copy? If not,send us an email at announce-subscribe@arboretumfriends.org. You don't have to put anything in the email. Our mailing list server will immediately email you back asking you to make a final confirmation. You do this just by replying to that email. Once on the list, just sit back and every couple of weeks you will get a new email updating you on the latest programs and activities at the Arboretum.

In Bloom Returns

Fri Apr 25. I am happy to announce that our In Bloom list has been updated, thanks to Phil Dahlen's efforts. Phil has prepared this list every two or three weeks for the past several years (while there are blooms to chronicle) and we look forward to many more to come. Check it out on the In Bloom page.

Bulbs & Flowering Trees Compete

Sun Apr 20. Those of you fortunate enough to have visited the Arboretum during the past few days were treated to a splendid display of bulbs and flowering trees. Click on the image on the right to see some highlights from yesterday.

We added two featured events on the top of the page:

• the major program, The World at Willowwood: Plant Exploration - Past, Present, & Future, which takes place on June 23rd; and.
• the very popular Garden Fairy Day which returns from last year on July 13th.

Plant Sale Raffle Prizes Announced

Sun Apr 13. This beautiful garden bench, donated by Smith & Hawken of Westfield, is the First Prize in this year's Friends Annual Plant Sale. The other prizes (and lots more information about the Plant Sale) are detailed on the Plant Sale page.

For you peony lovers, here is a picture of the white and pink wonder that our plant sale chairs used as the basis for this year's invitation.

A Beautiful Spring Day

Sat Apr 12. As I am sure everyone noticed, today was a beautiful day. I walked around at the Arboretum this afternoon, and took several pictures (just click on the image at the right to go to the album of them in the photo gallery).

Lots of people took advantage of the day and were greeted with daffodils, hyacinths, flowering trees and lots of pansies. The witch hazels are still beautiful and the rock garden is full of new blooms. The staff has rolled out the containers so plants are everywhere.

Do visit us regularly to see the splendor of spring overspread the Arboretum.

Wed Apr 9. With only a few weeks left, our plant sale co-chairs have been hard at work finalizing making this year's plant sale the best ever.
