We're offering a large selection of organic vegetables at our plants sale this year! All are grown locally without chemical herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. The plants were started from non-treated, non-gmo seed and certified organic seed, where possible. Each plant is in a 4-inch biodegradable coir pot in an Organic Material Review Institute approved soilless mix and fed with sea-based fertilizers and compost. Only beneficial insects were used to treat any pests. Plus, many of the varieties are heirlooms! Here are the details:

TOMATOES (determinate or indeterminate; days to harvest indicated)

Black/Purple

Cherokee Purple - Very popular, 12 oz. Extremely sweet fruits, I, 80 days.

Chocolate Stripes - Mahogany with dark green stripping on 3"-4" fruits that are sweet, rich and complex, great tomato, I, 79 days.

Red/Pink

Brandywine (Sudduth's Strain) - Large pink beefsteak up to 2 lbs., rich intense flavor, I 90 days.

Sweet Pea Currant - Hundreds of tiny red fruits on trusses of 10-12 each, great as a garnish, I, 75-80 days.

Mortgage Lifter (Halladay's) - Great crops of 1-2 lbs. Pink beefsteaks, meaty with old fashioned flavor, I, 80-90 days.

Henderson's Winsall- Heirloom from Jersey City, NJ market grower turned publisher Peter Henderson, 1-2 lbs. Pink/red fruited tomato with few seeds, delicious and flavorful, I, 83 days.

San Marzano Redorta - Large 8 oz. with great taste fresh or for paste, red I, 78 days.

Green/White

Cherokee Green -12-16 oz. Amber green beefsteak with yellowish hue when ripe, one of the best tasting green tomatoes, I, 85 days.

Yellow/Orange

Gold Medal - Large yellow streaked red, very little acid, highly rated, I, 90 days.

PEPPERS - Days to harvest shown; Heat index from 0-5 (very hot)

Fish - Beautiful variegated foliage on 18"-24" plants, fruits are 2" -3" long and ripen from cream with green stripes orange with brown stripe to all red, perfect for salsa, 80 days, Heat 3.

McMahon's Bird - Peppers are about 1" long, bright red, ovoid, grown by Thomas Jefferson, 90 days, Heat 3.

Nepalese Bell - 3" -4" fruits with thin crisp flesh, ripens from green to red, sweet around edge, hotter near seeds. 90-100 days, Heat 3

Nosegay (on right) - Small ornamental pepper, tiny 6" plants, use as a border in window boxes or pots, fruits are edible but hot, 70-80 days. Heat 3.

Sweet Chocolate (on left) - Thick sweet flesh ripens from green to chocolate on outside and brick red inside, 58-86 days. Heat O.

Tollie's Sweet - Sweet red Italian heirloom, large yields of 4"-5" long tapered fruit, 75-85 days. Heat O.

Tiburon Ancho - Sweet thick flesh, sturdy plants, 65 days green, 85 days red. Heat 2. Early Jalapeno - 2 - 2 1/2" sausage shaped fruit, 60 days green, 80 days red. Heat 4.

Orion Fl - Sweet smooth, thick walled jumbo sized pepper, 65 days green, 85 days red. Heat O.

Padron - Famous Taps pepper from Spain, harvest when 1 - 1 1/2" long and l out of 20 will be hot and the rest mild; 2"-3" long and all will be hot, 60 days. Heat 1.

Maya Red Habanero - Bright red glossy lantern shaped, longer and more tapered than typical habanero, 3"-4" long, 70 days green, 90 days red. Heat 5.

EGGPLANT

Rosa Bianca - Italian heirloom, meaty 4"-6" fruit with mild flavor, lavender blushed with white skin, 70-85 days.

Thai Green - Long slender 12" fruit with tender light green skin and white flesh, prolific and drought resistant, 70-80 days.

Orient Express Fl - 8"-10" slender glossy black fruit, long oriental style, tender with delicate flavor, 58 days.

Vittoria- Purple black cylindrical, mild flavor and firm texture, 65-75 days.

Imperial Black Beauty (on right)- Beautiful shiny black fruit with rich flavor, holds up well, 80-85 days.


BASIL

Genovese - Traditional Italian, tall and slow to bolt, dark green 3" long leaves, height 24"-30", 68 days.

Aroma 2 - Fl, Fusarium resistant Genovese type, glossy 3" dark green leaves, 70 days.

Red Rubin - Vigorous, purple Italian large leaf with high yields and great flavor, 76 days.

Spicy Bush - Spicy sweet basil flavor in 1" leaves, decorative can be grown in pots or garden beds, 45 days.

Purple Ruffles - Good for garnish or as an ornamental plant, All America Selection Winner, 75 days.

Green Ruffles - Ornamental with lime green ruffled leaves, can also be used as a garnish, 75 days.

Thai Basil - Green with 2" long leaves and spicy anise clove flavor, 59 days.

Grounds - 9:00a to Dusk daily

Haggerty Education Center - 9:00 am to 4:30 pm every day of the week (except holidays). It is also open for participants in scheduled events at other times.
