Lesley Parness On "Gardening Hour"

Dr. Lesley Parness, Superintendent of Horticultural Education for the Morris County Park Commission, will be interviewed on the radio show, Sudzin Country, hosted by Herb Sudzin. The segment is called "Gardening Hour" and may be heard LIVE on WRSU, the Rutgers Radio station, either on 88.7 FM in the Middlesex County area or on

The show broadcasts on Saturday, August 4th from 8 am to 9 am, so for our members who are up early on Saturday morning and like country music, this may be fun.

Calling All Crafters!

Believe it or not, planning is well under way for our annual Gingerbread Wonderland Extravaganza that runs in early December. Once again, we will host a Craft Show at the Wonderland, running on the weekends of December 1 & 2, and 8 & 9 from 10am to 5pm each day.

Video From Last Year's Plant Sale

The Friends 17th Annual Plant Sale has come and gone. Lots of beautiful plants found new homes, Members enjoyed the Friday afternoon party and preview sale, many more came to the Saturday and Sunday sale hours and were served by dozens of cheerful and hard-working volunteers. Through your participation, the Friends raised many thousands of dollars that will be dedicated, as always, to horticultural education.

Bright Pictures for a Gloomy Day

Here are some pictures from last week at the Arboretum. Hope they brighten this otherwise gloomy day for you.

Blooms Galore This Spring

This spring has been wonderful for all the bulbs, flowering shrubs and trees at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Be sure to take a walk and see them at your first chance.

Use our What's in Bloom page as a guide (it was updated this morning) and have a wonderful time at the Arboretum.

P.S. If you take some nice pictures, share them with us by emailing them to

Dawn Redwoods

The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is full of surprises. Recently a visitor, Steve Carr, walked around the Conifer Collection and took this picture of a beautiful group of Metasequoia glyptostroboides, the Dawn Redwood. They are located along the creek in the Conifer Collection.

What's in Bloom

Our very popular feature, the What's in Bloom list is filled with new material thanks to volunteer, Phil Dahlen's efforts earlier in the week. The Arboretum is nothing short of spectacular, as Mother Nature has donned her spring colors.

Come to the Frelinghuysen soon to enjoy it for yourself.

Arbor Day Awards - April 9, 2012

Today was a beautiful, sunny (and windy too) day for the annual Arbor Day Awards by the Friends to some of the dedicated people we have the pleasure of working with. The Friends honored three individuals for exceptional service: Bev Highfield, Kate Gutierrez and Jeanette Doman. Each received a tree planted in their honor.

Mystery Tree Identified!

At the Scotland trip slideshow at the recent Members New Year's Party, members and presenters alike were stumped at the identity of the tree on left. The picture was taken on our visit to the Royal Botanic Garden at Benmore.
