FRIENDS ANNUAL PLANT SALE

The Annual Friends Plant Sale fundraiser took place this past weekend. The Friday evening Members Preview Sale was very well attended, plant material was practically flying off the shelves and the refreshments prepared by Lynn Shavelson were delicious accompanied by a glass of Prosecco! Thank you Lynn for such a nice job.

In spite of iffy weather on Saturday and some torrential downpours on Sunday, people still came and shopped. By the end of the day on Sunday the shelves were pretty bare. Many thanks to all who came and shopped with us, we are truly grateful.

Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard to make this a successful fundraiser for the Friends. The volunteers were a wonderful group of hardworking people, the tent was decorated very invitingly, the plant material was a nice combination of natives, perennials, shrubs, small trees, etc. and there were even a few gardening related items for sale, perfect Mother's Day gifts.

Photos below show Lynn Shavelson at the refreshments table and the welcoming entry display created by Heather Emelander. Click each image to enlarge.

AT THE FRELINGHUYSEN ARBORETUM

So many lovely trees live in the gardens at the Arboretum, quietly providing shade, shelter and beauty for all who visit. Here's just a brief sampling: A delicate, lacy, pink dogwood (Cornus florida) blooming at wood's edge behind the tent. A pretty white dogwood (Cornus florida) doing its thing next to the parking lot. And a magnificent European Beech (Fagus sylvatica cv. Purpurea Tricolor) at the back of the arboretum grounds. The leaves on the Beech tree are gorgeous.

There are many more beautiful trees to admire and enjoy. Plan a visit soon. Click on the images to open our Photo Gallery page.
