MANY THANKS!!!

hank you to all our wonderful volunteers who worked hard, diligently and tirelessly to make sure our annual Plant Sale was a success; from plant experts to plant groomers and everyone in between, your efforts are appreciated more than you can ever know! The weather was not as nice as we would have liked, but you all soldiered on and got the job done. Kudos to you all!

American Originals: The native plants and extraordinary plant developments that America has shared with the world, with Barbara Melera

BARBARA MELERA PHOTO

Sunday, July 12 - 1:00 PM

In person at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Since 1492 when Columbus arrived in the Caribbean, the American continents have been introducing the world to some of the most incredible, dramatic, fantastic, delicious and beautiful plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs the world has ever known.

Please join Barbara Melera, President of Harvesting History Heirlooms LLC, a horticultural company founded in 2016 to provide its customers with the finest quality horticultural and agricultural products available today. Ms. Melera will discuss a few of the indigenous American plant species that have become important in the gardens around the world, three of the most significant American plant developments affecting the lives and gardens of this planet and the little known story of the unique role that American horticulture played in the founding of The United States of America.

Plants and products will be available for sale at the program.

AT THE FRELINGHUYSEN - May 6, 2026

Friends Member Gerry Pappalardo shared his photo of the stunning red leaves on a Cercis canadensis ‘Flame Thrower’ which was available for purchase at our Plant Sale.

A variety of nicely arranged planters can be found around the grounds at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum; Member Debby Holz captured a lovely one in the vicinity of the Rose Garden; another planter combining Pansies and Euphorbia was at the tent entrance to the Friends Plant Sale.

Several Jack-in-the Pulpit (Arisaema tryphyllun) plants found a home nestled at the base of a Redbud tree; known for its distinctive flower structure, this lovely New Jersey native woodland perennial thrives in rich, moist, shaded woods.

The pictures of the Pansy/Euphorbia planter and the Jack-in-the Pulpits are courtesy Margery Ennist.

The grounds around the Arboretum are just bursting with color and so many different textures, shapes, sizes, etc. Make sure to plan a visit soon!
