Cooking Demonstration: Revolutionary Desserts with Chef Cynthia Triolo

Sunday, June 28 - 1:00 PM

Revolutionary Desserts with Chef Cynthia Triolo

In person at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Chef Cynthia Triolo has shared the titles of the recipes she will prepare at this coming Sunday's Cooking Demonstration, all adapted from cookbooks in the Morris County Park Commission's Elizabeth D. Kay Rare Book library, spanning the 18th and 19th centuries. The recipes have all been updated for today's cooks and utensils, but the flavors have been kept intact:

  • Spicy Gingerbread Cake
  • Mixed Berry Slump
  • Cornbread Cake made with Mt. Vernon cornmeal and served with Strawberries
  • Pear Custard

This promises to be a delicious way to spend a Sunday afternoon and a perfect way to begin celebrating our nation's 250th birthday!

We don't usually plan much for the summer months, so please don't miss this special program we've arranged for our country's 250th anniversary!

Ms. Melera will have seeds and other products available for sale and light refreshments will be served.

Since 1492 when Columbus arrived in the Caribbean, the American continents have been introducing the world to some of the most incredible, dramatic, fantastic, delicious and beautiful plants, fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs the world has ever known.

Please join Barbara Melera, President of Harvesting History Heirlooms LLC, a horticultural company founded in 2016 to provide its customers with the finest quality horticultural and agricultural products available today. Ms. Melera will discuss a few of the indigenous American plant species that have become important in the gardens around the world, three of the most significant American plant developments affecting the lives and gardens of this planet and the little known story of the unique role that American horticulture played in the founding of The United States of America.
