Big Activities This Weekend!

We have two wonderful programs this weekend:

Tomato Day - Sunday, September 13, 2009

Noon - 4:00 pm; $5. per person; children under 10 $2. each

No advance registration! Pay at door.

  • Tomato Sampling!
  • “What’s Wrong with my ‘Maters?” Walk (12:30pm & 2:30pm)
  • Seed Saving Demonstrations (2pm & 3pm)
  • “Tomatoes on Parade” Lecture
  • Choosing the right tomato (1pm)
  • Cooking Demonstrations
  • Fresh uncooked tomato sauce (12:30pm & 3pm)
  • How to Preserve Tomatoes: Freezing, Roasting & Dehydration (1:30pm)

Sample the many varieties of tomatoes grown by Rutgers University, area farmers and us. Learn how to grow healthy tomatoes, save tomato seeds, pick the right variety, and prepare delicious, easy tomato dishes. Walks, talks, tastings, and demonstrations are offered throughout the day

Westin Weekend Walk - September 13

Wake up early for a pre-brunch walk at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris Township, NJ and be rewarded with a 10% discount at the Westin Governor Morris’ Copeland Restaurant.

On Sundays, September 13 and October 11 guests at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum will be offered a complimentary 1 hour long tour of the grounds. The tours begin at 11a.m. and depart from the Haggerty Education Center at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Visitors will enjoy learning about the arboretum’s history and seeing the many of the beautiful gardens that make up this 127-acre property which is on the State and National Register of Historic Places.

Following the tour, participants will receive a 10% discount coupon for Sunday Brunch Buffet at the nearby Copeland Restaurant at the Westin Governor Morris hotel. The Copelands Sunday Brunch Buffet, served from 12Noon – 2:30p.m., features breakfast favorites, sensational entrees and tantalizing desserts and includes one mimosa or champagne cocktail.

“We are very excited to partner with The Morris County Park Commission.” says Richard Ramos, General Manager of the Copeland Restaurant. “Personally, I enjoy walking through the arboretum with my family and hope more people can experience the beauty of the gardens and enjoy Sunday Brunch afterwards.”
