Happily the Frelinghuysen Arboretum was spared any damage in last week's storms. We wish our friends at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden well in their cleanup effort. In the meantime, Fall colors are starting to appear all over the Arboretum. Take advantage of these beautiful days for a walk around the Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Perhaps the next item is the place to start.

Plants of China: A Friendship and Peace Exhibit and Cell Phone Tour

The Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum are pleased to join UPS, Provident Bank Foundation and the Morris County Parks Commission in sponsoring Plants of China: A Friendship and Peace Exhibit and Cell Phone Tour. The Cell Phone Tour is one of many such programs at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum and provides visitors with extensive cultural and horticultural background of many of the Chinese transplants growing in all our gardens.

The exhibit guide (click on image at left for a large pdf in both English and Chinese) provides background horticultural information, as well as tour directions. One fascinating tidbit found there:

An astonishing 1/8th of the world's plant species are native to China, including thousands that are found growing nowhere else on Earth.

Take the tour anytime throughout September and October of this year. The program will be repeated in April and May of 2011.

North Jersey Dahlia Society Dahlia Show

The North Jersey Dahlia Society, one of the Arboretum's affiliate organizations, will fill the Haggerty Education Center Auditorium with Dahlias of all sizes, shapes and colors this coming Saturday, September 25th, from 1:30p - 3:00p.

Best New Plants, a Talk by Steve Kristoph

The Home Garden Club of Morristown presents Steve Kristoph, the well-known New Jersey landscape designer and plantsman, who will talk about the best new plants and shrubs for New Jersey gardens. He will also offer plants from his nursery for sale after the lecture.

Steve's talks are always informative, fun and based on his deep knowledge of our climate, soils and critters!
