Plants for Fall Gardening

Thursday, September 13 - With cooler weather on the way, it's safe to plant again.

Plant something now that will remind you next fall how clever you are! Bring your empty spaces and lonesome places to Plants for Fall Gardening on September 13 when Plantsman extraordinaire Daryl Kobesky will find your perfect match!

Story of Scent

The Arboretum’s Story of Scent plants have exploded! Come smell the jasmine and gardenia at our front door! Butterflies abound on our annuals, especially the Benary zinnia growing by the Branching Out! garden. Soon the Heptacodium miconoides or Seven Sons tree on the Progressive Walk will be covered by hundreds of monarch butterflies, drinking the sweet nectar of its fragrant flowers. Check out Phil Dahlen’s list below for more bloom updates.

Scented Zinnia Alert!

And speaking of fragrant: Scented Geranium alert! Join Lesley Parness on Sunday, September 9 at 10:30am in the Scherer Garden. Bring a sharp and clean small pruner or large scissor. We’ll provide everything else you’ll need for propagating scented geraniums from cuttings. No registration needed. This class will be re-scheduled in the event of persistent rain. If in doubt, call 973-326-7600 on Sunday.
