Email from Valerie Sudol

Valerie Sudol, long-time friend of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum and well-regarded garden columnist, wrote us about the continuing changes at The Star-Ledger. Read the full email by clicking here and then do what you can to make sure that quality garden writing stays alive in New Jersey:

Potting Shed

We are sorry to say the Potting Shed scheduled for June 1 has been cancelled.

Our herb garden is just starting to pump because of a delayed spring, so we don’t have enough herbs to teach with yet!

Berkshire Blast Bus Tour

There are just a few seats left in Berkshire blast, our bus trip to the Berkshires.

One garden that is sure to please us is the Frelinghuysen Garden at the Berkshire Botanic Garden. Here is how Dorthe Hviid from BBG describes it:

“The Frelinghuysen Garden here was created in memory of Beatrice Frelinghuysen who was married to Peter Frelinghuysen. It is a large perennial border (about 80' x 12') in dappled shade, so interesting in demonstrating what you can do in the shade with perennials. The garden was created thanks to the generosity of Bea and Peter's five children. Peter and Bea summered in the Berkshires most of their lives. Not sure when you are planning on visiting, but this garden is especially beautiful during the 3rd week in June.”

That’s exactly when we are visiting!
