The Serpentine Garden

Benjamin Blackburn Scholarship Lecture

This year's speaker is R. William Thomas, Chanticleer Garden's Executive Director and Head Gardener. He lectures from his book, "The Art of Gardening: Design Inspiration & Innovative Planting Techniques from Chanticleer."

Chanticleer Garden in Wayne, Pennsylvania is known as one of America's most romantic, imaginative and exciting public gardens.

Calling All Community Gardeners


Register before February 1 for the 7th Annual Community Garden Conference and receive a $10 discount.

Peter Hatch, former Director of Gardens and Grounds at Monticello will be our keynote speaker!

Other sessions include cover crops, irrigation, composting, planting for pollinators and plant breeding.

What a turn-out for a fabulous program this past Sunday by the always engaging Marta McDowell. For all the wonderful things Lesley Parness, Superintendent of Horticulture, has done for The Friends and the Arboretum over the years we say a BIG thank you and wish you all the best on your next adventure. You will be missed!

If you were at the party you no doubt noticed the beautiful floral arrangements and stylish recycle bin for all our plastic plates, cups and utensils. We can thank Linda Pastorino, Membership Co-Chair, for it all and for helping us green-up our events.

Judging by the success of our eco-conscious endeavor, we expect you will see more of this going forward.
