WHEN GARDENS DON’T HEAL - a Lecture by Dr. Robert Lyons

Saturday, March 17

Although widely believed to be true in an anecdotal sense, there is also an abundance of research espousing the curative value of gardens and other green spaces. However, what happens when gardens are integral to the source of disappointment, stress or even personal tragedy? Can we expect their reputed healing powers to live up to our own expectations for overcoming personal grief?

This talk will highlight one man’s journey following personal loss and the serendipitous role of gardens in the recovery process.

Tuesday, March 20

Botanical Artist Beth Murphy demonstrates the process of pressing plant material like leaves, flower petals, and grasses and discusses basic collage design elements.

Participants will work with pressed botanical materials supplied by the instructor to form a small collage on a card or bookmark to take home.

Saturday, March 24

The gardeners at Willowwood really know their stuff, and when it comes to pruning, no one does it better.

Learn the hows and whys from the experts, the science behind it all and what tools to use. Then, practice your new skills on the trees and shrubs in the gardens. Dress for the weather and bring your garden gloves for this program at Willowwood Arboretum.
