Sunday, April 14

Just 3 places left for this watercolor workshop!!!

Artist Rae Hoffman will show you how to have fun painting flowers and leaves using various techniques: wet into wet, wet into dry, negative painting and sprinkling dry paint.

Ms. Hoffman exhibits annually in area shows and has won many awards. She is a member of Studio 7 in Bernardsville and has paintings in national and international collections.

The class is limited to 15 students. A list of supplies will be sent upon registration.

Saturday, April 27

Steve Kristoph, Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University and owner of an eponymous specialty nursery in central New jersey, returns with a fun and informative talk about small trees and shrubs, both native and non-native, that will be well-behaved and dazzle throughout the seasons in your garden. Many of the plants he recommends will be available at the plant sale the following weekend.

This program is eligible for 1.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU’s.

Welcome in the spring season with this early spring container garden. Plant spring flowering bulbs and pansies and create a colorful arrangement of flowers to bring home.

Volunteer Treasurer for the Friends

Member, Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees

The Friends are looking for a Treasurer to work in a team environment with the bookkeeping contractor, as well as two part-time administrators and Board members, to manage accounting functions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining effective internal control environment
  • Ensuring compliance with reporting requirements & monitoring regulatory status
  • Leading Finance Committee
    • Coordinating with outside accountant for audit/tax filings
    • Overseeing the budget preparation process
  • Participating in decision-making and implementation of operational changes

This volunteer position initially requires an average of 12-15 hours/week to understand FOFA’s operations, decreasing to an average of 8-12 hours/week once familiar with the tasks, plus one board and one committee meeting/month. If you have a strong background in audit, accounting or related financial field and are looking for a meaningful way to share your expertise, please contact the Friends office at: 973.326.7603 or to find out more about this opportunity.

The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum will hold their 24th Annual Plant Sale Friday through Sunday, May 3 - 5, 2019 and we could use your assistance before, during and after it!

12:30p Annual Plant Sale – This is a members’ only event, but anyone wishing to attend may purchase a one-year membership at the door for $10.00. Your membership gains admittance to the annual plant sale, four issues of the Tri-State Hosta Society’s award-winning newsletter, admittance to two additional indoor meetings at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and at least three summer garden tours of member gardens.
