Saturday, October 12

Sunday, October 27

Expressions commonly heard each September like “the season’s almost over” don’t sit well with Margaret Roach. She has worked for more than 25 years to make her garden in the Hudson Valley-Berkshires area a visual treat every day of the year. Meet the plants and the philosophy that make it happen, delivered with a dose of “horticultural how-to and woo-woo.”

Ms. Roach’s book “A Way to Garden”, originally released in 1998, has now been fully updated for the just released 21st Anniversary edition and will be available for signing.

This program is eligible for 1.5 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU’s.

Gingerbread Entries

Last week we promised that on October 1st, we would be posting rules, forms and volunteer opportunities on the Friends’ website. However, due to changes in the volunteer signup process for the Gingerbread Wonderland event, we are running a little behind. Please bear with us and keep checking our website, the information will be posted soon – We apologize for the inconvenience, but look forward to hearing from you.

Note to Craft Show Exhibitors

We have had a great turnout of potential exhibitors this year. Our exhibitor list is full for this year's show as is our waiting list. We look forward to possibly working with you for next year's Gingerbread Wonderland Craft Show.

Last Friday, September 27 the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum and the Morris County Park Commission, hosted a luncheon in honor of our many wonderful volunteers, volunteers who make it possible for us to do so many things that would be impossible to accomplish otherwise. Our heartfelt thanks to you all!

We enjoyed a delicious lunch, listened to a very interesting lecture about the Cooper Mill by historian and miller, Samantha Hartford and two of our volunteers were honored with a tree planted in their name on the grounds of the Arboretum. The trees and honorees are:

  • A Parrotia persica ‘Vanessa’ was planted in honor of Judy Snow, Immediate Past President of the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum.
  • A Carpinus caroliniana ‘Ball of Fire’ was planted in honor of Russell Gatzke, Volunteer and Flower Arranger par excellence.
