What’s So Great About: Cottage Gardens

This time of year the cottage garden at The Freling- huysen Arboretum looks its best. It’s freewheeling, not formal; generous, not stingy. Its abundance may be what you notice rst but it is a distinct style that uses informal design, traditional materials, dense plantings, and a mixture of ornamental and edible plants. Tour the cottage garden and nd ideas for what you can do at your own home.

A new monthly seasonal garden series taking an informal look at a specific aspect of the gardens of the Arboretum. These will be outdoor programs as much as possible so dress for the weather. Each program in the series is eligible for 1.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU’s. They begin at 7:00 pm and cost $5 per person.
