A lover of all things that grow in the soil, Samantha Rothman is the owner of Fairview Farm and Flowers, a boutique cut flower farm and floral design studio situated on a historic gilded age estate in Morristown. Besides fantastic floral design, Sam has a ‘flower farm share’ where customers pick up her home-grown flowers every week.

In this talk she will discuss how to grow flowers organically, the permaculture techniques used to restore the landscape and the design strategies employed to complement the existing landscape using flowers and other plant materials.

HERBALISM FOR YOUR HEALTH

HerbalismForYourHealth19-th

Sunday, July 28

As we sip an herbal infusion, Shannon Mayernik will talk about how your backyard weeds can be turned into plant medicine that you and your family can enjoy year-round. As an herbalist, she utilizes what is around her home. She will bring in plants you may not be familiar with, but can almost promise you have growing in your neighborhood.

You will be able to touch, smell and taste the plants as well as try a tincture or two of her homemade plant medicines. She will discuss the different techniques for making plant medicine. The open conversation will invite questions, so bring a notebook and pen and get ready to learn all about plant medicine.

RENOVATING YOUR LAWN – TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS

RenovatingYourLawn19-th

Saturday, August 3

Jim Murphy, Rutgers Extension Specialist in Turfgrass Management, will explain the major grass species used for lawns in New Jersey as well as the range of adaptation for those grasses. The adaptation of a grass species dictates the niche within a property where each grass should be used for renovation. Lawn management is more successful when the property niches are matched with the best adapted grass species.
