Frank Goodhart

This past Saturday, October 21, the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum and the Northeast Region of the American Conifer Society (ACS) co-sponsored this year's Tree Symposium held at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. It was a full day of lectures, brunch, the dedication of the Goodhart Dwarf Conifer Collection, a tour of the Arboretum's Pinetum and a tour of the Hammer Garden in Morristown.

Marge Hulstrunk Arrangement

Prior to taking the tour of the Pinetum, Frank and Joan Goodhart were presented with a framed certificate of appreciation for generously donating their collection of valuable dwarf conifers to The Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

Russell Gatzke Arrangement

The event went smoothly thanks to a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers in charge of food, beverages, cleanup and a couple of lovely seasonal arrangements. Russell Gatzke created a gorgeous display of Dahlias (picture at right) and Marge Hulstrunk put together a very creative arrangement using acorns and fall leaves (at left).

Many thanks to all!

Wednesday, November 15 - 1:00 PM

This program will provide you with the necessary information to make your bird feeding hobby more enjoyable. Topics will include the best food to offer to attract the largest variety of birds, the different types of feeders available, why water and nesting boxes are so important, and, of course, ways to thwart those pesky squirrels!

Jim Walker is the proud owner of Wild Birds Unlimited (WBU), a retail store in Denville, New Jersey which caters to the backyard bird feeding hobby. After a successful 30-year career in the corporate world, Jim pursued his passion for nature and his enthusiasm for backyard birds and opened the doors of his WBU store in 2020. WBU is a 40+ year old franchise whose mission is "Connecting people with nature and doing it with excellence."

WBU is a Retail Partner with the Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Members of the Friends receive a 10% discount off all items.

Jim will bring a variety of bird feeders, bird baths, nesting boxes, etc. to show at his presentation.

We continue to be blessed with lovely fall weather, and the grounds at the Arboretum are a pleasure to walk around. I found a bee resting in a bright red Zinnia flower. The lavender Asters are gorgeous this year, so full of flowers and bees! Amazingly, there are still bunches of pink and blue Hydrangea flower clusters in various places in the garden. Enjoy this beautiful weather while you can!
