14TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY GARDEN CONFERENCE

Saturday, March 2 - 9:00 AM

STILL A FEW SPOTS LEFT FOR THIS POPULAR PROGRAM

The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum and Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Morris County are teaming up once again to present their Annual Community Garden Conference. This year Ben Flanner, Co-Founder and CEO of Brooklyn Grange is the Keynote Speaker. We have an impressive list of session speakers too, all experts in their field. They will cover topics relevant to not just community gardeners, but backyard vegetable gardeners as well as garden managers, and those trying to establish a new community garden.

This program is eligible for 5.0 Rutgers Master Gardener CEU's.

Philadelphia Flower Show 2024 PHS

This 2024 Flower Show’s theme, United by Flowers, will illustrate the beauty and power of flowers to transform, inspire, delight, and connect us to one another.

Join the Friends on this always popular and highly anticipated trip. Chat with garden experts and watch how-to gardening demonstrations in the Gardener’s Studio, shop acres of vendor booths brimming with merchandise in the Marketplace and enjoy lunch and/or dinner on your own at the show or at nearby Reading Terminal Market.

The bus leaves at 10:00 AM from the bus parking spot at The Frelinghuysen Arboretum; we will leave Philadelphia at 6:00 PM and arrive back at the Arboretum at 8:00 PM approximately.

MORRIS COUNTY PARK COMMISSION PROGRAM

SEED STARTING FOR A SUCCESSFUL VEGETABLE GARDEN
Saturday, March 9 - 10:00 - 11:30 AM

AT THE ARBORETUM

Spring is coming, you can feel it in the air and hear it in the birds' songs!!! The tiniest and most delicate little Irises are blooming in the gravel/crevice garden, lovely yellow and white and pretty lavender and white flowers, standing no more that 6-7 inches tall. A busy little bee was climbing all over the Eranthis hyemalis (Winter Aconite) flowers looking for an early snack. And the Adonis amurensis ( Pheasant's Eye) is in bloom next to Matilda's Cottage.

It is wonderful to walk around the grounds and discover all these little gems.

Morris County Park Commission Logo
The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is a facility of
the Morris County Park Commission
  • Frelinghuysen, Willowwood and Bamboo Brook Arboreta grounds are open 7 days a week, from 8am to dusk
  • The Haggerty Education Center is now open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The building remains closed on Sundays and Mondays.
  • Parking is limited. Other buildings remain closed. Portajohns are available.
  • HUNTING IN THE PARKS - See the Morris County Park Commission website.
