How to pay for your Plant Sale Purchases

The Friends welcome many forms of payment at the Plant Sale including cash, checks and credit cards. We are unable to process Venmo or Zelle payments.

We do not charge a fee for credit card purchases, but we do pay a fee for their use. For this reason, cash and checks are very welcome.

Also, we'll have shallow cardboard boxes at the sale for your use, but if you have a cart or even a nice bulb crate, consider putting your name on it and bringing it along to hold your selections while shopping. A holding pen will be set up next to the Pre Checkout Review tables.

Interesting or hard-to-find trees available at the Plant Sale

Lindera Benzoin

Lindera benzoin, spicebush

This small native tree (8 feet high with a 5 foot spread), has delicate pale yellow flowers in early spring. The leaves, twigs and fruit are all wonderfully fragrant when brushed against. In the fall, the lemon yellow foliage lights up the woods. Female plants produce shiny red fruit consumed by migrating birds.

The tree also is a host plant for the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the Spicebush Swallowtail.

Spicebush is wet site tolerant and deciduous.

Oxydendrum Arboreum

Oxydendrum arboreum, sourwood

Strands of bell-shaped white flowers adorn the tree in mid to late summer and the brilliant red fall foliage is striking. The flowers attract honey bees who produce an excellent flavored honey; the leaves, however, are sour, hence the common name.

Plant it with other acid loving plants such as Azaleas and Rhododendrons.

Sourwood can grow to a height of 25 feet with a spread of 20 feet.

Stewartia Pseudocamellia Bark

Stewartia pseudocamellia, Japanese stewartia

Stewartia pseudocamellia has lovely white flowers in late June which last for several weeks and attract a variety of native pollinators. The fall foliage appears in shades of yellow, red and purple and the lovely patchy multi-colored bark is beautiful all winter.

This tree can grow to a height of 30 feet with a spread of 20 feet.

Styrax Obassia

Styrax obassia, fragrant snowbell

The fragrant white flowers bloom in long showy panicles in May. This is a lovely small tree for a shady, naturalistic spot - very impressive when in full bloom!

Fragrant snowbell will grow to a height of 25 feet with a spread of 18 feet.
